  How Often is 1914 Openly Spoken of at the Meetings?

  as someone who left in 1991 aged 21, one of my overriding memories of growing up in the watchtower was being able to "prove" the end times by referencing 1914.. major change in 95 then again after that.

  if i'm being honest i could not even tell you now what the current teaching is.. for those who still attend the meetings, is it still openly spoken about?

  i genuinely curious as i wonder if the teaching will be altogher dropped eventually, and one of the easiest ways to achieve that is to stop speaking about it.

  It seems to me there are a lot of (moderate) people who don't necessarily like Trumps image but are put off by the obvious bias in the media toward him and are leaning in favor him more and more. They're becoming more willing to consider him as a possibility.

  Those who are against Trump feel quite free to be LOUD about it. From what I can tell, there are a lot of folks who are leaning his way but are hesitant to say so, out loud.

  Either way, as we've seen heavily all throughout Trumps Presidency, there are checks and balances in place that would prevent whomever wins, from doing anything too "out there". To me, that's why things stay relatively the same, no matter who is president.

  I'm not too worried about the outcome of the election but what do I know ??

  will restaurants and bars allow people to eat drink and simply hang out?.

  Surely there are more virus out there that have always been poised and ready to cross over into the human population but didn't because they died out before they got too far.

  Let's hope not but I fear that because the world has become so small, what we're seeing now will become a regular thing unless serious sanitation precautions worldwide are enforced. In the meantime, I'm guessing that along with the usual security checks before boarding a plane, there'll be some sort of health screening process and at the very least, you'll be required to be wearing a face mask and have your temperature taken or proof that you've been tested for whatever the virus of the month is. Who knows, mandatory quarantining of travelers before they are free to roam, may become the norm.

  The left over old JW mindset makes me wonder about the Bible prophesy regarding pestilence and disease in the last days

  Wow...after all I've said, there you go with the names again. You don't even know me but you resort to calling names. You now say that I'm a hypocrite because I dared to call you out on your rudeness earlier. Before that you accused me of not wanting to hear anything controversial. Which is it? I'm a rude and controversial hypocrite or I am I afraid of hearing controversy?

  Not surprising...you probably never take anyone who disagrees with you seriously and you it appears that you view anyone who does so in a logical way, as ranting. I'll just have pick up the shattered pieces of my life and somehow go on. Ha !

  No rant here....sorry if you're having a rough time. I'm just sitting by the water with the family staying cool and enjoying the day. I'm happy to talk history but would prefer not to hear the information or ideas you might have to present, punctuated by insults and name calling.

  As far as me whistling in the wind and focusing on secondary issues, you're obviously reading my every word and getting the message, hence your agitated tone. Rather than apologize for your original rudeness (which I could forgive) you continue to side step my original comment about you having called us "a bunch of uninformed posters" based upon one persons comment that you disagreed with. You continue dragging in red herring after red herring in an attempt to cover your tracks. You keep bringing up secondary issues and then accuse me of it.

  Exactly !! Just because you didn't agree with ONE persons comment, you said "this forum is made up of a bunch of uninformed posters". Unless you were you referring to a group of individuals on another forum, I took that to include me.

  You were the one who brought Jesus into the conversation and you used his authoritative way of speaking as a defense for your own rudeness. If you think I'm erecting a straw-man, then it's likely because you are trying to use my "straw-man as a "red herring" to derail the conversation and because you see yourself in the comparison, but can't bear that it's true.

  Yes....thanks for the apology....the uninformed bunch that we are, we'd have never figured that out for ourselves and would have the right to call you names such as uneducated or ignorant.

  If you haven't figured out what I'm saying by now, it's either because you refuse to believe that you could ever be wrong or its because you're not as clever as you think you are....at least not clever enough to be using such harsh words such as moron or uninformed toward people whom you've never met based on a few words typed across a screen .

If you read my original comment without the obvious filters you have on, you'll see that all I'm asking of you is to relay the information you wish to relay and do so without calling names such as " uninformed and Morinc". Just because you believe you may feel you are more informed on a matter doesn't mean you get to speak condescendingly to those who aren't as informed as you think they should be. I don't see were all this hostility is coming from?

  Jesus condemned the Scribes and Pharisees in boldy explicit terms; if you were there to hear it first hand would you have been offended, or would you have recognized the truthfulness of what he said?

  Really....are you comparing your words on this forum to the message Jesus? He was the Son of GOD and anything he said, he said with authority and he said it in person. You are a mere mortal as are the rest of us, and you have no more authority than anyone else on this forum. Unlike Jesus, your harsh words are coming from the safety of anonymity.

  Once again, you are free to do as you please but I'm asking you to simply say what you have to say but leave out the name calling. I don't know how to be more clear.

  Pete I get vienne's frustration.
  The idea that Russell was influenced by Masonic rituals has been debunked so many times and so thoroughly by thoughtful posters it is astonishing that the myth won't die. I guess people prefer a mystery to facts they ought to have known but didn't.
  Even what vienne and her late mum have posted in this forum has shown how poor most exJWs knowledge is of the origins of the religion. Most seem happy that way.

  You're right....it's perfectly OK for Vienne to hurl insults at an entire forum of people based on a mistake by one poster, regardless of how many individuals were patient with her before she became a fully licensed and accredited X JW.

  As for me, I'm going to continue to err on the side of kindness.

  It probably would have been enough just to say what you had to say about Russell and then leave it at that. Why the nastiness? We come here to share ideas and become informed. I'd prefer an uninformed poster to a nasty one. Misinformed posters can be quickly and kindly enlightened but nastiness lingers on.
